DUKE OF BRAGANÇA AND MILITARY DYNASTIC ROYAL ORDER OF OUR LADY OF CONCEPTION OF VILA VIÇOSA, CELEBRATES CLOSE OF THE JUBILEE YEAR AT NATIONAL SHRINE WITH PRESENCE OF THE HEAD OF THE ARMED FORCES:
The undisputed Head of the Portuguese Royal House and Grand Master of the Portuguese Dynastic Royal Orders HRH Dom Duarte, Duke of Bragança together with HRH D. Isabel, Duchess of Bragança.were in attendance at the National Shrine of the Queen and Patroness of Portugal with the members of the Dynastic Military Royal Order of Our Lady of Conception of Vila Viçosa to celebrate the close of Jubilee granted by Pope Francis to the Order on occasion of the 200th anniversary of its Foundation by King D, João VI.
Representing the Portuguese Government was the Head of the Armed Forces Admiral Silva Ribeiro.
The Mass of the Solenity of the Immaculate Conception which the Holy See permits be celerated in Portugal instead of the the obligatory Mass of the Second Sunday of Advent, was presided by His Excellency D. Francisco José Senra Coelho, Archbishop of Evora who received on this occasion the Grand Cross of the Order together with Chancellor Emeritus of the Order António Magalhães e Menezes.
During the Homily the Archbishop recalled how the Duke of Bragança maintains the tradition of the Royal Family and its Monarchs dating back to Saint Nuno and how the Military Order founded by King D. João VI is spiritually headquartered at the Shrine of the Queen and Patroness of Portugal since the return of the Royal Family to Portugal following the Napoleonic Wars.
D. Francisco Senra Coelho also stressed how grateful he was to the Duke of Bragança for the Plenerary Indulgence that was granted by Pope Francis to the Military Dynastic Royal Order of Our Lady of Conception of Vila Viçosa at the Shrine of Our Lady of Conception during the Jubilee of the 200th Anniversary of the Order and how this was a blessing not only for the Membrs of the Order but also for the Pilgrims to the Shrine.
